Artist Liu Yuanshou's Paintings
Liu Yuanshou was born in 1967 in Beijing. He received his bachelor's degree in oil painting from the Fine Arts Department of Beijing Normal University (now Capital Normal University) in 1991. Member of the China Oil Painting Society and the Beijing Artists Association. Liu Yuanshou's paintings primarily depict red fabric and ladies, both of which are quite complex. Sometimes red is warm, and other times it is really dismal. Through my paintings, Liu Yuanshou hopes to show an understanding and feeling for women. Liu Yuanshou believes that realistic paintings may be done in a highly current manner, and that realistic paintings are not always conventional. Liu paints strong sceneries with oil on canvas of women draped in brilliant red silk. They appear to be in distress, urgently trying to escape their own sorrow. Silkworm culture, as well as the creation of silk fabrics, is and has always been an essential part of Jiangsu's history. Silk is obvious in Liu's work, which predominantly concentrates on portraits of young ladies from the Jiangsu province, maybe as a result of this predicament.
