Indian Artist Iruvan Karunakaran
Iruvan Karunakaran, realist artist. Born and lives in India.
Iruvan paint his oil paintings on canvas. The main theme of his work is Indian countryside, national holidays and ceremonies.
The style of Iruvan is to interweave a variety of scenes of village life, from the streets and various reminders of the antiquity of the village, to people performing rituals or performing daily work.
“Arriving from Madurai, Tamil Nadu, to the village, I enjoy the feeling of lack of time in the villages and the calmness of its people. I, an urban resident who has been living in Hyderabad for more than ten years, admire the intricate interweaving of historical and modern, an interesting combination of which you see in the most iconic places in India. The streets are especially inspiring. They come from somewhere and go somewhere else ....
There is a feeling as if you are standing at the point called today, with yesterday behind you and tomorrow ahead. People tend to the streets and roads ... they want to get "somewhere" and "do something". Anyone can be the characters of my paintings: a man pulling a cart - he just put up with life's difficulties ... a busy trader who stubbornly strides to his goal ... a lonely motorcycle rickshaw or cyclist ... an elderly woman selling flowers and a sleepy dog resting in spite of the noise ... the continuous movement and change of streets makes people feel alive. Is there a better place to watch life, if not on the streets? ” - Iruvan Karunakaran.
