PASCAL ADOLPHE JEAN DAGNAN-BOUVERET , REALISM ARTIST (FRENCH, 1852-1929)

Pascal Adolphe Jean Danyan-Bouvre (FR. Pascal- Adolphe-Jean Dagnan-Bouveret , January 7, 1852 - July 3, 1929) - French artist, one of the representatives of the naturalist school.

Danyana Bouvre is considered one of the most significant artists of naturalism, a direction in art that turned to modern life at the same time as impressionism. Pascal Danyang, a 16-year-old boy, made an important decision - refused to leave with his father to Brazil and stayed with his grandfather in Paris to be able to study at the School of Fine Arts. Having learned, he added to the surname received from his father, the surname of Bouvre - in gratitude to his grandfather. He studied with the most famous academic artists of his time - Cabanel, Jerome. And he received the first honors in the Salon for quite traditional work.

His views on art changed dramatically under the influence of painting by Jules Bastien-Lepage. Having walked the classic path of the salon artist, who writes mythical heroes and goddesses in the clouds, he drew attention to the scenes of ordinary French life. He began to write Breton pilgrims, villagers and city sketches. Oddly enough, his new role completely suited the salon judges, who already saw a much greater danger in the impending wave of avant-garde currents. And therefore Danyana-Bouvre, who did not seek to paint colored shadows and flat figures, was even made the youngest academician. After the death of Bastien-Lepage, he became the main representative of naturalism in French painting.

Features of the work of Pascal Danyan-Bouvre: the artist painted both custom portraits and paintings on classical religious subjects, but glorified him and brought medals at international exhibitions for completely different works. For example, a scene of providing medical assistance to a village boy or a small street organ grinder, but the most famous works of Danyan-Bouvre are paintings of the Breton cycle. Danyan-Bouvre considered the development of photography an invaluable service to the naturalist artist and confidently used the camera himself - to take staged photographs and capture random street scenes for future paintings.
