Artist Karl Bang

Karl Bang was born in Bong Ka in Shanghai in 1935. His father was a famous commercial artist. Carl's neighbor and friend was also a wonderful art painter who studied the European painting traditions of France and Belgium. Naturally, Karl began to paint from an early age, and Western and traditional Chinese styles had a strong influence on his work.

After graduating from the Harding Institute, Karl Banga began his professional career at China Publishing House. During his time at the publishing house, Carl published 220 of his paintings. However, during the cultural revolution of Mao Tse Dong, he was obliged to paint only the propaganda images that the government demanded of him, to sing communist ideals, depicting mainly the working days of the Chinese collective farmers. It made me feel restrained and limited in terms of creativity. After Mao's death, most of Bang's paintings of this period were destroyed. In 1984, the artist and his family emigrated to the United States, where he surrendered to his passion - the image of the beautiful goddesses, the ideals of female beauty of various races and cultures. This became the central theme for all subsequent works by Karl Bang. In his paintings, he represents not just a beautiful woman, but a Woman, personifying natural softness, inner strength, nobility and sophistication. All this and the artist’s style form a single whole, which makes his work so famous.

The work of Karl Bang combines two opposing traditions: Chinese traditional painting and expressive European style. Later, his work absorbed the artistic styles of the whole world. And it was this combination of styles and techniques that earned him the title “Masters of Modern Eclecticism”.

Currently, his works are presented in the Richardson Gallery of Fine Arts. And Karl Bang is quickly becoming recognizable as one of America’s most famous artists, and to the delight of embroiderers, designers at Anchor (under the brand name Maia CS Collection) are developing cross-stitch patterns for Karl Bang's paintings.
