Fernand Toussaint impressionist of women charm


Fernand Toussaint was a belgian 19th century painter (1873, Brussels - 1956, Ixels) was born into a cultural middle-class family in Brussels in 1873. His artistic talent was discovered as a child and his family helped further develop his skills. At the age of 15, Toussaint began his artistic education at the Academy of Arts in Brussels under the tutelage of the famous portraitist Jean-François Portaels from 1889 to 1894. Portel was the first Belgian orientalist painter. He traveled extensively throughout the Middle East and was an influential portrait painter. As a teacher and director of the academy, he taught the basics of painting to students, prioritizing drawing while at the same time giving freedom of expression. Toussaint completed his art studies in Paris,

For this artist it was equally easy painting in all categories, from landscapes and seascapes to beautiful bouquets and still lifes, but in his intimate portrait and genre paintings we find, in the words of Mario de Monci, Toussaint as "the undisputed master of the grace and charm of a woman." ...

His classical art education in painting gave particular precision in conveying subtle emotions, in particular in Paris and London, which influenced his choice of palette and the delicate sensuality with which he endowed the paintings.
