Edwin Thomas was born in 1840 in London in the family of the young painter Thomas Edward Roberts. The boy received his first painting lessons from his father, and then continued his education at the Royal Academie of Arts. Beginning in 1862, Edwin's work was regularly exhibited in Suffolk Street and at the Royal Academy of Arts. The image on the canvases of their own children in a comic position turned out to be popular and in demand in Victorian society. The very first viewer and critic of the paintings for many years was his father, a true friend, companion and assistant of the painter. Edwin Thomas Roberts died in the fall of 1917.
