She went to Rhine Women's College in Stellenbosch after high school, and then to Cape Town Technical College to study visual arts. After graduating, she took makeup classes, then studied fashion design, and then worked in textile design for a few years.

She worked as journalism, tourism, antiquities and the restaurants after marriage and divorce. At the age of forty, she left the Cape with her daughter and went to live in Lady Gray, a lovely little town. Anna Maddock chose to focus on professional painting in 2002. She paints in pastels, especially her works are women's paintings that represent the artist's emotions.
