Paintings of Artist Calvin Lai

Artist Calvin Lai  Is a contemporary American artist. His painting is a "monkey," who climbed on his back. In kindergarten, was his first self-portrait. His appreciation for the world around him brought him a desire for realism, and he started to study the foundations of realism and perspective independently from a very early age. Calvin grew up in Los Angeles, with his enthusiasm for art growing with him, thanks to the variety of museums and galleries at which he was a regular guest. Still then, faces and characters have been Lai's favourite motif. He relocated over time to San Francisco, where he often attended the San Museum to learn the nuances of sketching and graving.

However, in 2008 he actually started to paint regularly when He attended the San Francisco Art Academy. From that point on, Calvin started to create his own style aggressively and to strengthen his artistic abilities in every manner. Calvin started to take part in exhibits, organise personal exhibitions and even once got included on South West Art Journal pages.

He is currently using oil paintings as his primary media. Calvin is still mainly interested in figurative and portraiture, and he is working on a number of new series. The primary line in one series portrays San Francisco's counterculture (a movement that rejects the ideals of the mainstream culture - Wikipedia); another series displays musicians (a series of paintings inspired by his own interest in music). Calvin portrays the distinct and fascinating personality qualities of each figure or topic he paints using paint, brushes, and perseverance.
