Rogelio Egusquiza y Barrena was a Spanish painter, sculptor who lived from 1845 to 1915. Author of a series of compositions inspired by Richard Wagner's operas. As a pupil of Francisco de Mendoza, he travelled to Paris in 1860 and enrolled at the School of Fine Arts. He travelled to England, Belgium, Holland, and Germany in 1862. In 1869, he relocated to the French capital.

In 1876, de Eguscuise developed a strong interest in Wagner's oeuvre. Finally, the artist met him and quickly became a member of the Parisian Symbolists, who were inspired by the composer's work and the cosmos he built. They created a new notion of art as a medium for the holy and magical by performing a series of works.
