Artist Edward Ladell's Paintings
Colchester is where Artist Edward Ladell was born. After working in Colchester for many years, he relocated to the West of the country, finally settling in Exeter. Despite being a self-taught painter, he established his own style of still life, undoubtedly influenced by the Dutch heritage. Because I nearly always utilised a wine glass, fruits, flowers, and occasionally a bird's nest, caskets, or a carved burdock, things on a marble ledge wrapped with an oriental rug, it is always clearly recognised. Edward Ladell's work was later appreciated.
Edward Ladell was most likely the most well-known of all Victorian still life artists. He presented his works at the Royal Academy, the British Institute of Painting, and the Society of British Artists beginning in 1856. Edward Ladell and his wife Ellen, who was an artist like her husband, lived cheaply in Colchester, Essex, Britain. They collaborated to create a distinct still-life style in the greatest traditions of Dutch painting. The Victorian richness of colour in Edward and Ellen Ladell's still lifes makes them instantly recognised, and their dependably high quality has made these masterpieces tremendously popular. The paintings are stored in the London Academy of Arts.
