Corinne Hartley (1924 - 2020) was a 96-year-old artist. She died on August 28, 2020, at her Seal Beach home, surrounded by family and friends. Corinne Hartley studied at the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles, and subsequently at a fine arts school in Pasadena. She worked as a commercial fashion illustrator for department shops in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills for thirty years. she has been a professional artist for over 40 years, serving as a jury member in shows and exhibits. Corinne Hartley is a sharp and empathetic observer of children's antics and young enthusiasm. She primarily paints ladies and children. "They are so busy - their energy is endless," she says about youngsters. Keep an eye out for them on school playgrounds or in dancing sessions. The only time they are motionless is when they are sleeping." Corinne Hartley began painting in watercolour and oils at the age of seven, and at the age of 71, she began sculpting to bring her children to life in three dimensions. Corinne's paintings are about humanity, the type of unmistakable reality that art, even over photography, can portray.
Her work schedule includes painting throughout the day, sculpting at night, teaching one day a week, and she is now working on her first book, "How to Draw Children." Despite the fact that her early records are fragmentary, it is believed that she generated over 5,000 original pieces during her lifetime.
"I believe love can be seen," she says. "My goal is to make my audience happy — to put a smile on their cheeks." When I see that smile, I know they've been affected in some manner. That pleases me."
