Nikolai Shurygin's Paintings

Nikolai Shurygin is a Russian painter. His work is famous for recreating the legendary Flemish painting method. Each preceding painting layer shines through the next, culminating in the ultimate realism of the transmitted image. For example, a human face or any other exquisite texture, such as silver, gold, brocade, fur, crystal, and so on. The condition of Flemish paintings is excellent. We see the paintings almost exactly as they left the artist's studios many years ago.

In 1957, Nikolai Shurygin was born in the Russian city of Kimry in the Tver region. In 1985, he graduated from Moscow Higher Art and Technological School. To become a professional artist, he spent several years acquiring multi-layered painting techniques, the secrets of which had been forgotten by the early nineteenth century. The Flemish painters used this one-of-a-kind technique. Painters like O. Kiprensky, V. Borovikovsky, and D. Levitsky refined similar painting techniques in Russia.

Nikolai Shurygin invented multi-layered painting methods. Painting a painting is a time-consuming process that might take up to a year to finish. Nikolai Shurygin draws very realistic pictures of historical and modern characters. The author's still lifes and genre settings are both outstanding. Exhibits featuring Nikolai Shurygin, including personal ones, were organized at many Moscow galleries. Several of the artist's paintings are in private collections throughout Russia and the world.
