Anthony Frederick Augustus Sandys's Paintings

Anthony Frederick Augustus Sandys, or just Frederick Sandys (May 1, 1829 - June 25, 1904) -On May 1, 1829, in Norija, Norfolk, England, an English painter Pre-Raphaelite, an illustrator and a drawingman who authored mostly portraits, as well as works in the area of mythical painting, was born. His father, who was also an artist, gave him his first drawing lessons. Frederick Sandys, who shown exceptional talent, attended the Noridge designer school (English Norwich School of Design) in 1846 on the recommendation of his father, and rose to prominence owing to his caricature of the Nightnaya Nightmare for John Evetta Mille Sir Izuyumbra in 1857.

Mille was seated in knightly armour, with two small children in front and behind depicting comrades Mille by the Brotherhood of Dante Gabriela Rossetti and William Holman Hunt. Oddly enough, Frederick Sandys and Rossetti became close friends; Sandys even resided in Rossetti's home at Cheney-Wings (Chelsea) at one point. Many of Sandis' paintings were titled under the pseudonym "John Ryskin, Oxon" (J. R). Frederick Sandys gains some notoriety in the 1860s by contributing to magazines including "Once a Week," "CornHill Magazine," and "Good Words." Collectors today place a high value on Sandis' illustrations, which have only ever appeared in periodicals rather than books. His paintings start to show up in galleries about the same time. The most well-known of these are "Vivien" (Eng. Vivien, 1863), "Fairy of Morgan" (Eng. Morgan Le Fay, 1864), "Cassandra" (English Cassandra), Elena Trojan (Eng. Helen of Troy), and Medea (Eng. Medea, 1868). Sandis, who spent little time painting, did not achieve fame as an artist during his lifetime.

Frederick Sandys was often short on cash, in part due to his heavy drinking. At the age of 27, Sandis married Georgian Creed, although they only shared a home for three years before deciding to separate. Sandis lived out the remainder of his days with actress Mary Jones, who later took the name Mrs. Sandis and gave birth to 10 children under the stage name Miss Clive, English Miss Clive. Sandis passed away in London in 1904. His favourite subjects were the legends of the Arturov cycle and Scandinavian mythology; he is also the author of several portraits of famous people, particularly Tennison and Browning. Sandis is regarded as one of the most talented pre-Raphaelites; his paintings and drawings can currently be found in many renowned museums.
