Artist Sergio Martinez Cifuentes
Artist Sergio Martinez Cifuentes was born in Santiago, Chile on July 7,
1966. Even as a child, his drawings were outstanding. It was during this
period that he began to participate in numerous youth painting
competitions, received significant awards that helped him understand the
true importance of his relationship to the visual arts.
In the first phase of his creative career, he is fond of descriptive
realism, showing great control over form and content, filling them with
elegant color. His main theme during this period was the landscape. In
1987, he painted his first portraits and nudity, this became a new
challenge for him. The main character of his works was his wife. Since
1990, "nude" will be a theme that is present in almost all of his
canvases.
From 2000 to 2002, he takes a break from his work, and associates it
with the study of "Raphaelism". The artist changes oil paints to acrylic
paints, attention to texture, but most importantly, his interest in
detail and decoration, interest in the gestures of the characters, and
the intensity of light and shadow have changed.
From 1992 to 2003 the artist opens his workshop in the city of
Concepcion, where he holds personal exhibitions. Since 2002, his works
have been participating in international exhibitions.
He currently lives in Madrid and works closely with the Sammer
Gallery.
