Jack Hoggen was born on November 17, 1951 in Methyl, County Fife, an industrial beach town. He grew raised in a low-income home. He shared a bed with his father, mother, and older brother, with whom he shared a bed. Jack started working to aid his family when he was 10 years old. He was a courier who carried documents, milk, washed windows, and harvested potatoes, in other words, he did any work that paid at all. His father grabbed half of his wages, leaving only a little portion for personal necessities. At the age of 16, Jack began working as an apprentice mining engineer. He began drawing as a pastime in the 1970s after a lover gave him a pair of watercolours. Early paintings by Jack Vettriano were signed as Jack Hoggen. These were paintings in the Impressionist style. The first piece was a Monet rip-off, a replica of his Poppy Fields. He mostly examined the artworks at the Kirlkaldi Gallery and Museum. Jack Vettriano's paintings were originally shown at Shell in 1984. His wife Gail left him on the eve of his confession in 1987. Jack was 36 years old at the time.

Jack Vettriano presented two of his paintings at the Royal Scottish Academy's annual show in 1989. Around this time, he began signing his work using his mother's surname, Jack Vettriano. Both paintings sold on the first day, and Vettriano was approached by other galleries seeking collaboration. His work has been criticised for being too sexual. Indeed, because painting from nature with a self-taught artist was impossible, he chose images of females of simple virtue. "Fetish" is a 1998 painting that the artist holds dear because, according to him, he experimented with meanings: a smoking male is observing a call lady. Most importantly, her black stilettos and stunning stockinged legs take centre stage. People entered the exhibition in Edinburgh by climbing through the restroom windows. That is why, according to the artist, "my first solo exhibition was regarded as sexual." Vettriano's art is divisive. He experiments with sex. His crisp, risqué paintings pique the viewer's interest. Jack Nicholson acquired Night. Geometry II in 1996. Sir Alex Ferguson acquired the piece "And Came a Spider." His paintings cost little more than 3,000 pounds in the early 1990s, but now they sell for 25,000 to 125,000 pounds.
The Singing Butler, a romantic painting by Jack Vettriano, was rejected by the Royal Academy at its summer exhibition in 1992. It relates the story of two lovers who dance tango in the rain and wind without realising it. Only the butler and the maid are able to withstand the onslaught of nature's powers. Neither the clouded sky nor the dominant black and white colour make the image depressing. It is brimming with brightness. Her replicas became extremely famous, bringing the artist not just renown but also a large sum of money. The original was sold for £744,500 in 2004.
Jack Vettriano's paintings were displayed in New York in November 1999. Over 40 British collectors travelled to the event, and 20 paintings were sold on the spot.

The protagonists in Vettriano's paintings live in magnificent interiors and are unconcerned about material concerns. These exquisite men and women are inspired with the spirit of the dazzling 1940s. A narrative, a little short story, is concealed in many of Vettriano's paintings. His paintings depict heroes dancing on beaches and conversing in bars, allowing the viewer to witness someone else's "glorious existence." colleagues and detractors. Because Jack Vettriano is a self-taught artist, reviewers and artists have termed his work "empty panache" and lambasted him for inadequate colour work and drawing abilities. But he must be taken seriously because his work is popular with the general people. He is the best-selling artist in the United Kingdom. Posters, reprints, and postcards of his works are extremely popular in his own country. Vettriano has three homes. One is in London, one in Scotland, and one in Nice. In an interview with The Independent in 2010, he stated, "I live in a world of sadness." When I'm agitated, I become more creative."
