At first, it was only a pastime for the young guy, who enjoyed copying the paintings of Scottish artists. Then he came upon the Impressionists and began to mimic them. That is the foundation of Jack Hoggan's art education. He received no specific schooling and developed Jack Vettriano himself.

Success came after a 14-year wait, when Jack Vettriano displayed two of his paintings in the Scottish Royal Academy's annual show. And that was a lot of fun.
