With trepidation, he wrote children working in the field along with adults, caring for livestock, showing them at home, as well as playing with peers in their free time.

Gaetano portrayed both children and adults cheerful and happy, despite the poverty and hardships of their lives. That is why this sparkling positive, masterfully displayed on his canvases, so attracted and continues to attract, like a century and a half ago, the looks of an admiring public to his creations.

The subtle instinct, artistic vigilance of the master helped him in creating picturesque masterpieces. The master painted his paintings very skillfully and believably, filling them not only with positive, and sometimes with good humor.

Cotton wool, napkins, and hair serve as portals into this realm that is "stuck" between reality and dreams. While researching sleepwalking and other diseases (narcolepsy, hypnosis, and hypnopompic hallucinations), I began to experiment with a different form of portrait: veiled faces, drooping eyes, and intriguing scenarios in which personal hallucinations develop and disappear."

Another (outdated) version says that the painting depicts Laura Dianti. These hypotheses, however, do not agree with the dating based on stylistic analysis, which links the work to 1512-15. Laura Dianti was depicted by Titian in a 1523 work. Probably, a simple model posed for the painting “Woman in front of a mirror”, whose name remains unknown, but she appears in other paintings by the artist.

 

 There is a similar painting depicting a woman combing her hair and a young man holding mirrors. It is kept in Prague.
